New
Survey Aircraft
Flight Images has secured the delivery of a new 'survey' modified
Cessna 172 aircraft. The aircraft is fitted with four camera ports,
two for vertical and two for oblique (one on each side of the aircraft).
The
existing vertical digital camera system will be equipped with a
further two CCD cameras and a video link to assist in accurate site
alignment. This will allow the camera operator to visually follow
the GPS/moving map system we currently use.
The
aircraft is also equipped with long range fuel tanks, providing
up to eight hours endurance, a more powerful engine than our present
Cessna and more up to date avionics to improve safety. The aircraft
is to be painted in the 'High Viz' blue/yellow (as seen on army
& police helicopters) to improve 'on site' and transit visibility. |

Get
Mapping Partnership
Flight Images have entered a business partnership with Get Mapping
(www.getmapping.co.uk
), Geosense ( www.geosense.co.uk
) and SCS Ltd ( www.scs-ltd.co.uk
) to re-fly the Millennium Map of Great Britain at 10 to 15 cm resolution.
For this purpose, Flight Images is operating its new Piper Chieftain
twin engine survey aircraft from a second base at Oxford's Kidlington
Airport. The aircraft carries the latest state-of-the-art Vexcel
Ultracam D digital survey camera www.vexcel.co.at,
the first of its kind in the UK and to date one of only ten worldwide.
The camera with gyro stabilised mount, is 'driven' by a computer
controlled navigation system www.igi-ccns.com
and will be undertaking a vertical survey of the whole of the UK
on a three year rolling basis, as well as being available for specialist
operations and one off surveys at resolutions down to 5cm!
This
will, for the first time, make startlingly detailed high-resolution
survey imagery available to the general public via Get Mapping's
web site. The data also includes near infrared and panchromatic
layers. The change to digital format has increased the visual clarity
of the imagery to a breathtaking level and many leading insurance
and communications companies, together with the emergency services,
are expressing great interest in the new product. |

New
3D Golf Techniques Developed
As part of our policy of continual refinement of our products, we
have now introduced a variable height and adjustable positioning
layer for 3D golf imagery. This allows the customer to control the
'depth' of the 3D work, together with the ability to reposition,
add or delete features as necessary without altering the integrity
of the original photography.
This
can save many hours of fine tuning and gives the customer control
over the 'feel' of the 3D work. |

| GPS
Linked Image Data
From Spring 2005, all new digital library imagery will be photographed
with the addition of a GPS link which allows positional, height
and date/time data to be stored within the image (not visible).
This
will ultimately allow a rapid search facility to be integrated within
the library and on-line search functions. |
